Every May, we recognize Skin Cancer Awareness Month — a time to educate, advocate, and protect. But for us, it’s more than a campaign. It’s personal.
Officer Michael T. Kominsky Sr. served West Bridgewater with honor for 29 years. A dedicated officer, son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend — Mike was taken far too soon by a rare form of skin cancer called Acral Lentiginous Melanoma (ALM). He was just 51!
Mike’s cancer was aggressive and largely hidden — like ALM often is. It doesn't always appear in sun-exposed areas, and it affects all skin tones. That’s why awareness and early detection are critical.
Let Mike’s story serve as a reminder to never take life for granted. Be vigilant. Be proactive. And spread the word to help save lives.
Watch for the ABCDEs of melanoma: Asymmetry, Border irregularity, Color variation, Diameter over 6mm, Evolving shape or size
Together, we can honor the past and protect the future.

MAY is Melanoma Awareness Month
